  21. They were exempt from disclosure of their UFO documents under the Freedom 
  22. of Information Act in 1979 or 1980 or thereabouts.  Their excuse was that 
  23. it would reveal "sources and methods of intelligence gathering", which is 
  24. a crock considering that they could have released the documents segregably 
  25. (partially blacked out), especially the ones from the 1950s where the 
  26. sources would be human names, not technological capabilities.  
  27. Furthermore, I have yet to see the judge use this excuse -- he said 
  28. national security considerations, but the NSA said sources and methods. 
  29. Even their in-camera affidavit was about 80% blacked out.

  31. However, in the book by Capt. Ruppelt, former Bluebook head, written in 
  32. 1956, he said that the "puzzle palace" would occasionally call him and 
  33. complain "Why did you release that information?"  Well, we now know that 
  34. the "puzzle palace" was the insiders' term for the NSA ever since that 
  35. book was published a few years back.  This could be taken as proof that 
  36. the NSA had something to do with UFOs.

  38. Furthermore, consider the creation of the NSA.  Funny you should mention 
  39. this, because somebody pointed out the following to me in email today:

  41. "Truman established the NSA by executive order on the same day as the Nov.
  42. 1952 Presidential elections.  As a result, it's never had any sort of
  43. Congressional mandate or oversight.  Two weeks later, Eisenhower was
  44. briefed for real by Truman and his Cabinet and the Pentagon.  This is the
  45. same date as the MJ-12 papers.  And of course, the CIA was in the process
  46. of assembling the Robertson Panel.  Whether UFOs had anything to do with
  47. the way the NSA came into being, I don't know, but it is suspicious."
